How BabyTime Tracking Works

BabyTime tracking keeps things simple: log feedings, diapers, sleep, and milk in a few taps, and we'll show you patterns over time without overwhelming you with charts. Everything syncs instantly with your partner so you're always on the same page. Privacy-first and designed for exhausted parents - track what matters, skip what doesn't, and get gentle insights when they're actually helpful.

Why Track with BabyTime?

You've already invested months using BabyTime for naming. When baby arrives, you don't need to learn a new app - just activate tracking features:

  • One app, complete journey: From naming to daily care
  • Partner sync: Same real-time collaboration you loved for naming
  • Privacy-first: Your data, your control (unlike some baby tracking apps)
  • No learning curve: Familiar interface you already know

Feeding Tracking

Log Feedings Instantly

Quick-log in under 5 seconds:

  • Breastfeeding: Track which side, duration (timer), both breasts
  • Bottle: Amount (oz/ml), formula or breast milk
  • Pumping: Output per session, time, notes
  • Solid foods: (Once started) - Type and amount

Smart Features

  • Side reminder: "Last feed was left side - start right?"
  • Pattern detection: "Baby usually feeds every 2.5-3 hours"
  • Growth correlation: Feeding frequency vs weight gain insights
  • Partner notifications: "Emma fed the baby at 2:30am"

Milk Vault (Pro)

Track pumped milk inventory:

  • Milk stash (date pumped, amount, location - fridge/freezer)
  • FIFO alerts ("Use milk from Jan 15 first - expires soon")
  • Storage guidelines (4 hours room temp, 4 days fridge, 6 months frozen)
  • Running total of available milk

Diaper Tracking

Quick Log

Tap one of three options:

  • Wet only
  • Dirty only
  • Both

Add optional notes: color, consistency, rash, etc.

Why It Matters

In the first week, diaper count is THE indicator that baby is eating enough:

  • Day 1: 1 wet diaper
  • Day 2: 2 wet diapers
  • Day 3: 3 wet diapers
  • Day 5+: 6-8 wet diapers per day

BabyTime alerts you if counts are low: "Only 3 wet diapers today (expected 6+) - contact pediatrician if this continues."

Poop Patterns

Track frequency, color, consistency. BabyTime flags concerning changes:

  • White/clay-colored (possible liver issue - urgent)
  • Black after first week (possible bleeding)
  • Blood-streaked
  • Extreme constipation or diarrhea

Sleep Tracking

Log Sleep Sessions

  • Start/stop timer (or log past session)
  • Location (crib, bassinet, contact nap, stroller, car)
  • Quality rating
  • Notes (woke multiple times, slept through, etc.)

Sleep Insights

  • Total sleep per 24 hours
  • Longest stretch
  • Wake windows (time between naps)
  • Bedtime consistency analysis
  • Sleep regression detection

Safe Sleep Reminders

BabyTime sends gentle reminders about safe sleep practices:

  • ABC rule (Alone, on Back, in Crib)
  • Room temperature warnings
  • No loose blankets/pillows reminder

Growth Tracking

Log Measurements

  • Weight: From pediatrician visits or home scale
  • Height/Length: Track growth
  • Head Circumference: Important development indicator

Growth Charts

Visual charts show:

  • Baby's growth curve vs WHO standards
  • Percentile tracking over time
  • Rate of gain (oz/day, lb/month)
  • Flags for concerning patterns (falling off curve, etc.)

Additional Tracking

  • Shift tracking: See who's "on duty" and needs sleep
  • Joint notes: Both can add observations

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need Pro to track?

Yes, tracking features are Pro-only. However, your naming features remain free forever. Pro is $11.99 / month and includes unlimited name shortlist + full tracking.

Can I start tracking before baby arrives?

You can explore the tracking interface, but active logging begins after you mark "Baby has arrived!" The app automatically transitions from naming mode to baby care mode.

What if I already use another tracking app?

You can import data from popular apps (Huckleberry, Glow Baby, Baby Tracker). Contact support for import instructions. Many parents switch to BabyTime because they're already comfortable with the interface from naming.

Is tracking necessary?

Not required, but VERY helpful in the first 2-3 months when:

  • Sleep-deprived and can't remember last feed
  • Pediatrician asks "How many feeds per day?"
  • Trying to establish patterns
  • Troubleshooting issues (reflux, sleep, etc.)

After 3-4 months, many parents track less religiously. That's fine!
