6 essential tips
Safe Sleep (ABC Rule)
Always place baby on their BACK in a crib with a firm mattress. Keep crib CLEAR of blankets, pillows, toys, and bumpers. Baby sleeps CLOSE to you in the same room for at least 6 months.
Car Seat Safety
Never leave home without properly installing and using a rear-facing car seat. The chest clip should be at armpit level, straps snug with no slack. Never place car seat on high surfaces.
Never Shake Baby
Shaking can cause permanent brain damage or death. If frustrated, place baby safely in crib and take a break. It's okay to let them cry for a few minutes while you calm down.
Choking Prevention
No honey before age 1 (botulism risk). Cut foods into small pieces. Learn infant CPR. Keep small objects, coins, and batteries away from baby.
Water Safety
Never leave baby alone in bath, even for a second. Use only 2-3 inches of water. Test water temperature with your elbow (should feel warm, not hot).
Temperature & Clothing
Dress baby in one more layer than you're wearing. Room temperature should be 68-72°F. Check back of neck to see if baby is too hot or cold. Never use loose blankets - use sleep sacks instead.
