When to Use the Ceremony

The Decision Ceremony is designed for the moment you've narrowed your shortlist to a finalist and you're ready to commit. It works best when both partners are present, unhurried, and emotionally ready — think of it as the final chapter of a months-long journey, not a quick vote. Set aside 20–30 minutes and choose a quiet moment together.

The Six Phases

1

Set the Scene

A gentle invitation to create the right environment — light a candle, pour a warm drink, put your phone on Do Not Disturb. The ceremony begins when you're both ready.

2

A Breathing Ritual

Three guided breaths to centre yourselves before the reveal. Inhale together, hold, exhale. The name waits. This phase slows the moment down intentionally.

3

The Name Reveal

Your finalist name appears in a private cinematic reveal — just the two of you, the name, and a moment you'll never forget. The reveal is displayed full-screen on both devices simultaneously.

4

Write Your Vows

Each partner writes a private message to their child — the hopes, promises, and love you carry into parenthood. These vows are sealed until you choose to share them. There's no minimum length; write what feels true.

5

Dual Signatures

Both partners sign the naming commitment digitally. The signatures are embedded into the certificate — a record that this decision was made together, by both of you.

6

Keepsakes for Life

A print-quality PDF naming certificate (300 DPI) is generated immediately. Your vows are sealed into an 18-year time capsule letter that BabyTime delivers to your child on their 18th birthday.

After the Ceremony

Once the ceremony is complete, BabyTime automatically:

  • Records your Final Choice — the name is saved as a Journey milestone with the ceremony date
  • Generates the naming certificate — print-quality PDF, ready to download and frame immediately
  • Seals the time capsule — your vows are encrypted and scheduled for delivery on your child's 18th birthday
  • Unlocks your Journey timeline — the ceremony appearance is preserved so you can revisit the moment

Partner Roles

The ceremony is designed for two, but it doesn't need to be done on two devices at the same time. One common approach:

  • Complete the ceremony together on one device, alternating entry of vows
  • Or each partner opens the ceremony on their own device — BabyTime syncs the progress in real time

Both partner's signatures and vows are required for the certificate to be generated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I redo the ceremony if we change our minds?

The ceremony is designed as a one-time commitment. However, if both partners agree to start again, you can reset from Settings → Journey → Ceremony. Vows from a cancelled ceremony are permanently deleted.

What if we haven't narrowed down to one finalist yet?

Consider running Tournament Mode first. Tournament lets you do head-to-head bracket voting with your partner to eliminate names one at a time — a great way to get to a single finalist before the ceremony.

Is the ceremony available before baby arrives?

Yes — many couples complete the ceremony during pregnancy, especially once the name has been settled. You don't need to wait until birth. The certificate will show the ceremony date and can optionally include the due date or birth date once it's known.

Do we need Pro?

Yes. The Decision Ceremony is a Pro feature. Use the Ceremony Preview to walk through every phase as a free user before deciding to upgrade.
